When I visited Obudu, I packed wrong. I remember I was told to hold a thick cardigan but I took a sweatshirt. I thought I was going on every other vacation but Obudu cattle ranch is different. The mountain resort has a rather irregular weather. With daytime temperatures in the 80s and nighttime temperatures in the 40s or 50s, it’s wise to consider the weather when choosing an activity. From hiking through Obudu’s mountains, to outside camping and movie nights, different times call for different ‘looks’.
There are different ranges of activities to engage in so knowing what to pack in advance will ensure your trip to Obudu mountain resort becomes an enjoyable and unforgettable experience. So if you’re thinking of or planning a trip to Obudu, this is your ultimate checklist!
Weather temperatures in the Obudu mountains are fairly predictable. The mornings are cold, afternoons are hot and then evenings and late nights are freezing. Literally!
During my visit, we got out as early as 7 am to hike. At that time, the weather is usually still very cold but after two hours, it’s always back to being manageable. When packing clothes for your Obudu Cattle Ranch trip, take into account the fact that the mountain resort’s weather changes rapidly, and so pack clothes that can easily be layered to accommodate the changes.
I advise you to bring a thick cardigan or jacket, hiking shorts and short-sleeved shirts as well as long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Jeans, hoodies and accessories like gloves and socks will come in handy, too.
Thick items of clothing are the best but be prepared to pull off when the weather gets hot. Make sure you pack comfortable clothing because there’s a lot of hiking and walking activities at the resort.
The nighttime temperature is usually very harsh. It is super cold and can be very uncomfortable even despite the duvets, room heaters and all the shut windows. Make sure you pack long underwear and warm pyjamas to ensure enough coverage so you don’t freeze out your lungs.
80 percent of the activities in Obudu Cattle Ranch involves a lot of hiking and walking and you have to be prepared for this. Trust me, you don’t want to be going up a mountain in the wrong shoes. If you want to enjoy these activities, you need comfortable walking shoes to wear while exploring the ranch. A pair of hiking boots or a sturdy pair of trainers that are quick to put on and take off are also important. A pair of whatever proof hiking boots are an advantage. Ensure that these shoes protect your feet and don’t injure your ankles while doing the strenuous activities.
A pair of flip flops is also needed especially when you go jumping into the waterfalls or running around the water parks. They also come in handy for walking around your cabins/accommodation.
BACKPACKS or FANCY PACKS
Backpacks are very important on your trip to Obudu.
When hiking to the attractions in Obudu, you need a comfortable place to put all the extra kinds of stuff you will need. Most attractions are far from the base, so when going for the hikes, you need things like swimsuits, towels, extra water bottles, flip flops, etc. Besides, when hiking, you want to be able to move without being weighed down and at the same time, you want to make sure all your phones, cameras and other necessary items are safe and don’t fall. So bringing a small backpack or day pack allows an easier walk-through and exploration because it comes in handy for carrying all these necessary stuff.
Simply put, a backpack or fancy pack is a must-have on your trip to Obudu.
There are lots of accessories that are important on your trip to Obudu. These accessories allow you to enjoy your trip better and make you more comfortable on your mountain vacation.

- Lip balm and lotion: to protect your skin against the climate.
- Swimsuits: are every essential on your trip because there are a lot of waterfalls, natural pools and later pack in Obudu Cattle Ranch.
